Artist Janine Antoni came to me with a very specific photographic challenge: to create a life-size photo that would be admired from afar, while capturing the subject's intricate detail that would be looked at up-close. A photo enlargement simply would not do. This had to be an actual large photograph. To add to this, Janine Antoni would be hanging from a harness and a live spider would be inside the doll house. Using a multi-shot technique requiring 130+ images, we created a photograph that was 10-feet tall, with a resolution of 335 megapixels.

Using techniques similar to panorama photography, it is possible to use DSLR cameras to take images that surpass large format digital photography. Extremely high resolutions can be targeted, and the equipment is easy to transport to any location.
Photo stitching can also be used to simulate the compositing aspect of expensive and cumbersome field cameras, allowing you to shoot in constrained spaces or to make creative framing choices.
