A production company was pitching a TV pilot and needed a show opener - delivered quickly and on a modest budget. The show was about childhood friends separated by time, reuniting years later. Using simple black-and-white stock imagery as a starting point, basic 3D models were created and animated in the style of a pop-up book. For easy editing, the animations were rendered as separate short "story" scenes, and the final title sequence tied in using the same pop-up style.

Autodesk Maya was used to create and render the animations. To speed up production, simple Ambient Occlusion shader was used as the primary shader.
Styling with color and "grit" was accomplished by treating each frame of the animations in Photoshop, and then recomposing in Adobe After Effects.
